Tyee Hackathon 2026 provides an opportunity for Bellevue School District middle school students to learn, collaborate with others, and explore how AI can be used to make a positive impact! You can compete individually or in a team of up to three to create a meaningful and creative solution. There are prizes! Bring a positive attitude, and let's have some fun!!

Requirements
WHAT TO BUILD
Students must follow the theme: AI for Good
Challenge:
Using generative AI, students should create a project that solves a real problem at school, at home, or in the community. Your project should be helpful, creative, and safe. Examples include a homework helper that explains concepts, an AI-powered study buddy, a school organization tool, or a community-focused app for kindness, recycling, or safety.
Students should:
- identify a problem
- brainstorm a solution
- use AI tools
- make a simple prototype or mockup
- present their idea clearly
You can use any programming language or AI tool
Your project must be appropriate for middle school and should not include harmful or inappropriate content
Do not use or input any personal data into AI tools
Your project should include a clear purpose and a working demo, prototype, or mockup
The judges must be able to run your project online. So you must host it on Repl.it, Scratch, etc or your own website.
What to Submit
- The link to your project (No source code or binary submissions)
- A description of your project and what you learned, as well as an explanation of how you used AI
On April 30, 2026, during club time, you will have 10 minutes to present your project to the judges. If you are not part of the Tyee Programming Competition Club then please email tyeeprogramcomp@gmail.com to get the link to the meeting.

Creativity and Originality — 20 points
18–20: very original, exciting idea; 14–17: some creative thinking, familiar idea with new twist; 10–13: basic idea, limited originality; 0–9: unclear or copied idea -
Problem Solving and Usefulness — 20 points
18–20: solves a real and meaningful problem well; 14–17: helpful and relevant; 10–13: somewhat useful but not fully developed; 0–9: unclear problem or weak solution -
3. AI Use and Understanding — 30 points
23–30: AI is used thoughtfully and explained clearly (Usage of MPC server / Agentic flow); 15–22: good use of AI with some explanation (Persist records in DB); 10–14: AI used, but connection to project is weak; 0–9: little evidence of meaningful AI use -
Design and Presentation — 20 points
18–20: polished, organized, and easy to understand; 14–17: mostly clear and well put together; 10–13: somewhat organized but incomplete; 0–9: hard to follow or unfinished -
Teamwork and Communication — 20 points
18–20: everyone contributed and presentation was strong; 14–17: good teamwork with minor imbalance; 10–13: uneven participation; 0–9: little collaboration or unclear speaking
